Room Sharing Update.

You might remember my plea for suggestions on room sharing a few months ago:
I figured it was time for an update on the situation.

I spent a lot of time debating, talking about, researching and thinking about what to do.
I wanted Z out of our room, so that when Max came home, we'd have our own space.
But I didn't want to disrupt either one of the kids sleep schedules.
And with having to feed Z at least once a night, I knew the potential for waking L up.

About a week before Max came home, I got the impulse to just TRY having them sleep in the same room.
So one night, I fed Z, put him to bed and then layed L down.
They both went to sleep.
In their own room.
It was glorious.
I could be in our room.
With the light on.
And not have to tiptoe around.

But the moment of truth didn't come until Z woke up around 0200 that night.
Would L go back to sleep?
Would she make a big fuss?
He stirred, I went into their room, got him up, changed him and fed him.
L opened her eyes, but once she saw it was just Z and I, she went right back to sleep!
Yay!  I was so proud!!

At this point, they have been sharing a room for almost two months!
And are still doing great.
There have been a few times where one or the other have been crying a LOT.
And do you know what?
The other typically just sleeps right through it!
Makes me one proud mama!

Our routine is to put them both to bed at night.
Once Z wakes up to eat (usually around 0300), Max gets up and brings him to me.
I feed him and then lay him back down in the pack-n-play.
Which is still in our room.
This is mostly so that if he wakes up again at 0600 or 0700 to eat, that he won't wake L up too early.
I like it when she sleeps until 0730, ha ha!

There have even been a few times where we can hear them "talking" at night.
It's way too cute.
A couple of weeks ago, Max and I had come downstairs after putting them to bed.
And all of a sudden, we heard Z making his "dinosaur" noises.
L would "reply" in said noises.
Back and forth they went.
Until finally one gave into sleep and then the other.
Made us both smile.

It's been great - this room sharing.
They have done marvelously.
And it really is fantastic to have our room back!

  3. I remember those days. Elle and Gabe will still play together in the mornings, and in the evenings. Unfortunately, the outcome isn't as innocent and cute anymore. LOL!
