AZ Vacation Photos: Mt. Lemmon

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Two weeks ago, while on our vacation to AZ, we took a drive from Tucson into the mountains, up Mt. Lemmon.  It took us about an hour and a half to get to the top, and it was an absolutely gorgeous drive. Apparently, we drove through multiple climatological zones - going from the saguaro-covered desert, to the pine-covered mountaintop.  It was lovely - plus, it was almost 30º cooler at the top, than it had been at the bottom - which this pregnant mama was happy about!

Ezzy fell asleep on the way up, so he missed out when we got out at the top (or at least, the top most that WE drove to that day!).  A fire came through recently, so many of the trees were without leaves/needles.  The sun and colors and smells and cooler air were wonderful.  I really, really enjoyed it - is it obvious yet?!
It seriously didn't feel like were in AZ anymore!  SO crazy!
Pretty sure this is one of my favorite photos from the trip.  I just love it!
We stopped for a picnic lunch (and for L to have her first port-a-potty experience, ha!), to stretch our legs, to pick up some pinecones and sticks, and to blow bubbles (which, it looks like, Max enjoyed the most, bwa ha ha!).
After eating lunch and enjoying the views, we started our trek back down the mountain.  We made sure to stop at one of the Vista points, for some photos and to breathe in the air, before getting all the way back down.
The view was gorgeous.  And then I got the genius idea for Max to take some photos of me...and he got the genius idea for me to lay down on the rocks...pretty sure that is one of the most awkward (or at least uncomfortable!) pregnancy photos ever...
We loved our drive up Mt. Lemmon - it was a nice break from the heat, and it was really neatl to see the difference from the bottom of the mountain, to the top.
