A Desert Christmas Vacation.

Monday, January 06, 2014

Hello!  Happy 2014!  We are back home in CA, unpacked and readjusting to our usual routines.  It was a fun-filled holiday vacation, and we were blessed to spend it at my parents house in AZ - it was a bit strange celebrating Christmas in the desert, but it was awesome to get away for a few weeks!

We spent just under two weeks at my parents house in AZ - we celebrated Christmas together, ate lots of yummy food, took the two older kiddos to their first movie in the theater, went hiking, played with new toys, visited with family and friends, soaked up sunshine, read lots of books, played at the park, and relaxed away from home.
Max and I also celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary on December 22.  My parents gifted us a night/day away - it was our first night away from the kids since we've been married!  We visited a couple local coffee shops, enjoyed a kid-free night at a beautiful hotel, ate at a delicious restaurant, relaxed in a hot tub under the stars, visited the Zoo, went to a movie, and ate Sonoran-style hot dogs (a hot dog, wrapped in bacon, topped with beans/onions/tomatoes/mayo, in a sweet bun…YUM!!).  We definitely filled up the 30 hours we were away - it was fun adventuring with Max, sans kids, and celebrating our anniversary.  Thanks to my parents and Uncle Kyle for taking care of the kiddos - it was such a treat getting away for a time!
It was nice to take a little break from blogging for a few weeks.  I checked in on social media a little throughout our vacation, but overall, it was good for me to take a step back away from the blog for a time.  There may not be any neat 2013 recap happening around here (it was a good and hard year all rolled into one), and I may not have had any huge Christmas fanfare, but that's just fine with me.  I am so happy we got to spend some time away - it's so busy being here, with Max at school, and it ended up being the perfect break and refresher for us.
Max starts class back up tomorrow, and I don't know if we are quite ready for the whirlwind that will once again descend on us.  I am eager to share more about what's been going on around here - pictures and goals and updates - but for now, I have thank-you cards to finish, and kiddos to play with!  Happy Monday!
