On my heart: my story

Wednesday, October 09, 2013

I love the online blogging community.  I love that people have a platform to share their voice, their story, their ideas and thoughts.  I've been incredibly encouraged and inspired by reading other people's stories and adventures.  I've cried through trials and struggles shared, I've rejoiced over new babies and exciting news announced, I've nodded my head in agreement at thoughts and ideas and transparent hearts boldly written about.  I so enjoy reading other blogs, and standing up from my computer inspired and full of ideas to mull over, thoughts to run through my brain, and encouraging words bubbling forth from within.

I know there is another side to the online community, and that with great transparency can often come great negativity, but for today, I am focusing on the good, the lovely, the real-life giving words I have found online.  I feel that I have grown and have learned from some amazing women, about faith and grace and what being a vulnerable mama and woman is about.  I feel that I have been stretched and challenged by the words of others.  And I feel incredibly grateful to have been a part of it, allowed into other lives and hearts, through their blogs.

But lately, I have noticed something in myself.  That after I read blogs and think upon the thoughts of others, I allow the lie that "my story doesn't matter" to enter my brain and take hold.  I let the comparing begin inside myself, often finding myself at the most fault, of having nothing eloquent or important or meaningful to say or share.

This is a lie.  And I am going to fight it.

I have a story to share.  You have a story to share.  Everybody has a story to share.  If you have breath, you have a story.  We have each been given a unique life, with a unique set of circumstances and upbringings.  We each live in a unique place and do our own unique things.  And we each have a story to share.  The way people choose to share their story may look different, but each of us was created with our own unique and beautiful story.

Now, I know this may not seem like a big newsflash to all of you, but it's been on my heart today, and I  know that I needed to think about it, to hear it, this truth that I was ignoring:

I have a story that is all my own.  It's a beautiful, special, unique story.  And I intend to share it.

  2. You are right - You DO have a story to share! And I, for one, thoroughly enjoy keeping up with your story. And am often inspired by how hands on you are with your children, never once complaining about a lack of personal time, but rather enjoying every moment you are given with them. It gives me something to strive for myself! Keep on telling your story, girl!

  3. I can relate to this. It is easy to lose my voice when I read so many others, but I love how you said it. We all have a unique story to share.

I look forward to reading more of yours!

  4. You are so right. It's too easy to read someone's blog and think, "well, nothing I write is ever that great; why do I bother?" Everyone's story looks different, because we're all different, though similar in some ways.

  5. You don't know how much I needed this! I sometimes feel like my story is so "inadequate" in comparison to some of the ones I read in the blogging worlds. But, you're right, I have a story. My story is what made me into who I am. It's what continues to mold me. Every person's story is special. (I love reading yours, by the way. You do have a beautiful story!)

  6. This is beautiful.

I'm glad you know it's a lie to think that. Because your story matters more than you'll know, just like all of ours. But it matters to all of your readers, and definitely me. Your blog is one of the sweetest, brightest spots on my reader. I'm so glad you write.
