wedding wednesday: decorations

it's that time again: wedding wednesday! today i thought i would share some of the fantastic table decorations, flower arrangements and the lovely (and delicious!) cake that we had to make both the ceremony and reception a little snazzier (is that even a word?!).

if you want to see last week's wedding wednesday: bride and groom, you can find it here!

i told you that my husband loves fish! this was completely his idea, so i can't take any credit. he called one day a few weeks before the wedding and asked if we could have goldfish (actually he originally wanted clownfish at the wedding, but that would have been too expensive and too much work) as a decoration - he originally wanted to have a bowl on each table. he so badly wanted this to happen, that he walked all the way to a pet store from base (he didn't have a car) and bought some goldfish, then got some cranberries and a floating candle from the grocery store, so he could "test" this idea out - too cute! we had one big bowl (that we borrowed) that we filled with goldfish, had cranberries floating on top, along with a few floating candles. the fish bowl turned out really fantastic and is probably one of my favorite things about our decorations - it just fit!!!

we bought our flowers in bulk at sam's club and my mom did a fabulous job of arranging them. this particular jar sat up in front of the church. i love the white flowers (i am so bad with flower names...).

our simple, yet pretty cake. it has swirls on the sides (if you can't tell in the picture) and the ribbon matched the purple we had in the wedding. we bought some christmas ornaments and self-arranged a little cluster for the top.

some of the pretty ornaments we found at a bulk decor store. the swirling matched the cake sides!

at the reception, on each of the tables, we had a "centerpiece", that we made ourselves. we found the candle holders, got some greenery and cranberry twigs, and put a few of the christmas ornament bulbs in the mix too. it looked lovely.

since the reception was a few days after the ceremony, we took the big vase of flowers (from the second picture) and split it up into smaller vases for the reception. we also mixed in some small bulb ornaments. these sat on the taller tables (we had a mix of sit-down tables and stand-at tables).

and of course, the fish came along to the reception. i don't even know where they went for the few days between the ceremony and reception (although i think one of max's good friend/groomsman who took care of the entire fish thing (my mom sure wasn't ever going to touch those things!!!) took them home for a few days - thanks willie!!!). at the reception, they sat on the gift table. i really do love our fish bowl!!

  2. The fish bowl was an inspiration! And I love the cake. I love simple, modern ones as opposed to the ones with 200 sugar roses on them.
