and she's a one-kidney kind of girl...

yesterday, we found out that it looks like eliana has only one kidney! during my pregnancy, at the ultrasound, there seemed to be some abnormalities with her kidney(s), so the dr said they would do a follow-up ultrasound on her once she was born. we went to the children's hospital last thursday where little ms. L had her very own ultrasound done. she was great...slept the entire time! the dr. called yesterday with the results and it looks like she has only one kidney! cool, right! the dr said it is nothing urgent or anything to worry about...many people are born without a kidney and lead completely normal, healthy lives. she wants us to have a follow-up appointment with a pediatric urologist to make sure everything is working right, but she was not at all worried! after doing some research, it looks like just about 1 in 750 people are born with only one kidney and many don't even know for their entire life (unless they have some kind of scan done, they wouldn't know!). people with one kidney don't have to follow special diets (well...besides eating a healthy, well-balanced one, of course...) and are sometimes encouraged to not participate in heavy-contact sports in which their kidney could be damaged. i think it's amazing what god can do...when a person only has one kidney, their other kidney often increases slightly in size and compensates for the missing one. i think that's neat!

other than that, life is good. ms. L is currently 9 lbs, 2 oz and gaining...which is great. i have stopped waking her up in the middle of the night and most nights, she'll sleep for 5-6 hours before waking up to eat. we don't have much of a routine yet, although i am sure in the next few weeks, we'll start working on one. she is still eating and sleeping whenever she wants during the day, although she also tends to have a pretty lengthy period or two of being awake (lately, this lasts about two hours and then she wears herself out). her eyes are also lightening, which is super fun to watch. they are getting lighter every day, i can't wait to see if they'll be super light like maxwell's or darker like mine! not much seems to phase her...the other day we were cleaning the house and we had two vacuums running and kyle was banging on the piano...and she slept soundly through it. the dog can bark frantically at the door and she barely stirs in her sleep...my theory is that she heard so much of the same noise while she was in my belly, that she is used to it all, which is great! she is definitely a good sleeper!

maxwell is now in north carolina - i think he's glad for the change in scenery and to see green again! i think we are both eager to learn more about what life in north carolina will be like for him, and about his upcoming schedule - once we know more about his schedule, we'll be able to plan more definitely, which is exciting!

tonight, eliana and i are venturing on an outing to pizza ranch with some of her auntie's (and their spouses!). should be exciting! oh the little joys in getting out of the house for a few hours!
