The first week as a family of six.

Thursday, November 20, 2014

We came home from the hospital one week ago, and have been settling into somewhat of a routine as a family of six.  Whoa.  That's weird to say.  We have four kids now!  Holy smokes!  I can't stop taking pictures of baby Emmalee, so be prepared for photo overload in the next few weeks.  She is so squishy and sweet, and I can't stop thinking about how this will be our last newborn.  I am soaking up the snuggles and trying to remember these little moments we have with her.  Which in turn reminds me of the little moments we had with each of our other kiddos when they were little tiny babes, and it makes me all sentimental over this newborn stage.
We are all very smitten by baby Emmalee.  The kids adore her.  They want to be able to see her all the time, and constantly want to hug and kiss her.  Evie will tell me exactly what she is doing, and likes to "take pictures" of her with her pretend phone.  Ezra was very stand-off-ish at the hospital and wouldn't look at Emma, so we weren't sure how it would go.  Once we got her home though, he warmed right up to her.  He loves to be with her, and I usually have to stop him from kissing her so much.  Eliana was so proud to tell her preschool and gymnastics teachers all about our new baby.  She is excited to help out with Emma - she loves to pick out her outfits each day!
One of my best friends, Aimee, came for Emmalee's birth.  She arrived on my due date, and stayed for almost 2 weeks.  Because baby Emma didn't make her arrival until a week past her due date, we were able to do some fun things in the area - drive through the Saguaro National Forest, visit a Mission, go to some funky furniture/antique shops, get Dunkin donuts and lots of Starbucks, go to the Desert Museum, visit the Zoo, eat Sonoran hot dogs, etc.  We were sad to say goodbye to her at the end of last week, but I am so thankful for her being here for Emmalee's birth - it was so special having her here, and I am so glad for all her help and support!
Baby Emmalee seems pretty laid-back so far.  She nurses well, sleeps well (and even does some longer stretches at night!), and goes with the flow.  She is super sweet and snuggly, and doesn't get too fussy over things, except when she has a bath or gets a diaper change.  It's been an adjustment, this becoming a family of six - one that we'll keep figuring out over the next few weeks and months.  I am so glad Max has been able to be home for her arrival and for this week (he leaves this weekend), and I am so thankful for all the help that my parents have been.  We definitely have a village around us, and I am so grateful for the support that we have - we couldn't do this alone, that's for sure!
