a little fishy.

so my husband may or may not be a total fish nerd. let me explain...when i met him (while working together at a coffee shop...but that's another story for another day...), we would talk about what we did outside of work. he talked frequently about fish. the fish conversations actually started after i took a vacation to hawaii, came back and told my co-worker (now my husband) about my snorkeling experience. and he started naming off all sorts of saltwater fish, what they looked like and where they might live. from that point on, i would ask him questions and he would tell me bits and pieces about his fish knowledge. as i continued to get to know him, i came to find out that he bought and sold fish and fish equipment to different people all over the city where we lived. his biggest love in the fish world lies in saltwater aquariums, particularly in clownfish (like nemo, in the movie, finding nemo). he knows a LOT about clownfish and has even done some clownfish breeding. i now know more about clownfish than i ever thought i would know in my entire life, ha ha! at one point, while dating him, he had at least 10 fish tanks set up in his little apartment, with lots of clownfish, that he would buy and then sell to various other clownfish breeders and enthusiasts. it was a bit crazy! and although i hope to never have our house over-run with clownfish like his apartment was, i know that at some point, we will drag his favorite fish tank out and set up a little clownfish haven in our home :)

all this background to set the stage for my story... when i talked to him a few weeks ago, he mentioned that he wanted some more reading material (he reads for awhile after work...probably could be sleeping...but he just likes to read, ha!) and asked specifically for some print-outs on clownfish or some fish magazines. now, i know how expensive magazines can be, so i got to thinking. after meeting max, i learned that there are a LOT of people out there that are also in fish and they have many different fish forums online. so i made up a little account and posted a plea to anyone who would be willing to donate some old fish magazines to my deployed husband who loves fish. and what do you know? there are at least 3 packages coming my way, from random fish enthusiasts, who wanted to give him some fish magazines. i thought it was so sweet. i really didn't know if anyone would be willing to do this or would think i was lame by asking. but they thought it was great and wanted to support him, which made me smile! he has no idea i have done this, and i am SUPER excited to get those magazines and make a "fish" package (complete with goldfish, finding nemo fruit snacks, tuna and magazines!!) and send it to him! anyways, i was completely grateful that random people who don't even know us would be willing to send me their old magazines. it made my heart all happy and get all proud of my husband and all the other men and women that do so much for our country! and honored by the people that give so much to support and encourage the troops!

  1. That is awesome! It is the best when you get things for the troops from totally unexpected places. And that is great that there were people that had what you were looking for and generous enough to send them to you.
